About Us

Charity Treks, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that came together following the Montreal to Maine AIDS Vaccine Bike Trek in 2002. This original event, organized by another group, then cancelled, begun what has become quite an enriching experience for the people behind Charity Treks and the participants.

The riders and volunteers were so very committed to the cause of raising the public awareness about AIDS that they felt compelled to not let this be a one-time event. Drawing on the ideas of these riders and volunteers, we gathered together to form a totally volunteer organization whose purpose is to forward the cause of AIDS awareness, increase the ownership of this cause for each participant, and raise funds for vital research into the development of a vaccine.

In keeping with the theme of the original event, we are dedicated to keeping these events at a grassroots level, where they are small enough for individuals to connect with one another and feel a part of the whole. We want to know our participants personally, to identify with them and to exchange ideas that result in positive communication with the people we come in contact with.

The events we have produced so far could not have been completed without the tireless efforts of countless volunteers who have provided their support when needed, in exchange for being part of something special. We consider Charity Treks to be the sum of these volunteer efforts.
